I saw this charge after getting gas at a Marathon gas station with an Amex card. Not sure why it has this name.

What is it?
I received a similar charge on my AMEX card at a Marathon gas station in Alabama. I pumped $30.01 but was charged a $100 “CAT SALES” debit. I contacted the Marathon station and they informed me that since I paid at the pump, AMEX automatically charged $100 as they did not know how much gas I would be purchasing. They said that AMEX would be refunding the balance in a few days and that this is common practice with paying at the pump with AMEX cards at Marathon. He said to pre-pay inside in order to prevent this issue.
Yes the same thing just happened to be with my Amex Card at a Marathon station. Looks like they are doing this regularly. I am calling Amex now.
"CAT SALES" for us was a charge at a Marathon gas station in central Ohio
Marathon Gas had developed a process of catalytic cracking "CAT" and had what looks like a Jaguar on an old advertisement. They either are, or were located in Findlay, OH.
